Astoria Park Leaf Fest Returns With Two Volunteer Days This November

The Astoria Park Alliance is holding two free Leaf Fest volunteer mornings this month. Help collect fallen leaves for compost, and bring a shelf-stable food donation to the November 21 event for Astoria Food Pantry.

A fall cleanup with a purpose

The Astoria Park Alliance is hosting two Leaf Fest volunteer mornings this month. Neighbors will rake and collect fallen leaves so they can be composted and eventually help enrich the soil at Astoria Park and other NYC Parks.

If you have a free Saturday morning, this is a nice way to get outside and pitch in around the neighborhood.

Two mornings at the park

The first event is Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. The second is Saturday, November 21, also from 10 a.m. to noon. Both meet at the Field House near the Astoria Park track.

The Alliance says it will provide gloves, tools, and training. Wear closed-toe shoes and come ready to work outdoors.

Bring a pantry item on November 21

The second Leaf Fest day will also collect shelf-stable food for Astoria Food Pantry. Volunteers and other park visitors are encouraged to bring a donation, which the Astoria Park Alliance will collect for the pantry.

I like that this gives the leaves a second life and gives neighbors a simple way to help out. If you plan to go, check the November 14 event details or the November 21 event details. The Alliance says to check its Facebook page for weather updates.
