Astoria’s 31st Avenue Open Street has a free Halloween celebration Saturday, with pumpkin painting, Mets guests, and activities for kids. Socrates Sculpture Park has a nearby harvest festival.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and there are a couple of good daytime options if you’re planning to stay close to home. The 31st Avenue Open Street has a free celebration for kids and families, and Socrates Sculpture Park is hosting its Halloween Harvest Festival nearby on Vernon Boulevard.
The free celebration runs from noon to 8 p.m. on 31st Avenue between 33rd and 35th Streets. The organizers have activities scheduled across the afternoon. The New York Mets are expected from 1 to 4 p.m. with Mr. and Mrs. Met, photos, kids’ crafts, and giveaways. Pumpkin painting runs from 1 to 6. There will be free children’s books and a costume-making workshop from noon to 3, a bubble show at 3, and a Puppetsburg Halloween show at 5. The office of State Senator Kristen Gonzalez is also planning a trick-or-treat table from 12:30 to 4.
You can see the 31st Avenue Open Street event schedule and the Astoria Connect listing for the location and event hours.
Down along Vernon Boulevard, Socrates Sculpture Park’s Halloween Harvest Festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. at 32-01 Vernon Boulevard. The afternoon includes pumpkin decorating, a costume-making workshop using reused materials, a community resource fair, a vegan food market, and a dog costume contest from 3 to 5. The ticket page lists free entry with an optional suggested donation, and the official festival listing has the RSVP link and full schedule.
Both are nice ways to get outside, show off the costumes, and see neighbors before the evening trick-or-treating starts. Hope to see you around.
