Friday's forecast calls for showers and a chance of a thunderstorm this evening, then the weekend takes a turn. Saturday will be breezy and cool, while Sunday is expected to be sunny. Here are a few things to know before heading out around Astoria.
The National Weather Service is forecasting showers and a chance of a thunderstorm Friday evening, with temperatures falling to around 50 overnight. There is also a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across much of the region late Friday afternoon and evening, so keep an eye on updates if you are out.
Saturday should start mostly cloudy before clearing later. The high is near 54, with north winds around 14 to 17 mph and gusts up to 29. Saturday night could dip to around 40.

If you want to get outside Saturday morning, NYC Parks lists the NYRR Open Run at Astoria Park from 8:45 to 11 a.m. It is a free weekly 5K, open to runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels. The group meets next to the track by the comfort station.

The MTA's planned service page currently shows no weekend changes for the N or W. It does show a Saturday and Sunday change for Forest Hills-bound R trains: they will skip 36 St, Steinway St, 46 St, Northern Blvd and 65 St. The E and F also have overnight Queens changes from Friday night into Monday morning, with local trains skipping those stops. If your trip takes you farther into Queens, check the alerts before leaving.
NYC DOT's weekend advisory for October 16 to 18 lists planned closures elsewhere in Queens, but no Astoria-specific closure. It does not cover emergency closures or every longer-term project, so check the live map before driving.
That is the weekend as it looks right now. Stay warm on Saturday, check the alerts before riding, and enjoy the sunny Sunday if it holds.
